In this 3-week class, you can explore how to use a vessel's surface as a canvas through the sgraffito process. Sgraffito, "to scratch", is a surface decoration technique where you carve intricate designs through a layer of colored slip to reveal the contrasting clay beneath. During the 3 classes, you will throw vessels, apply slip, and design and apply the carving techniques needed to bring your personal imagery to life. Whether you want to illustrate narrative scenes, geometric patterns, or delicate botanical motifs, you will be guided through the process to create striking, functional works of art. Class cost includes supplies for one completed piece - additional pieces are $5 per piece. Work will be ready for pick-up 3-4 weeks after class end date, or can be shipped to you at an additional cost.
