Pottery Classes

Class is 6 weeks long.
In this class, students will explore the design and scale of their creations through hands-on lessons in throwing larger forms, crafting cohesive sets, sculpting, and experimenting with illustration. Music, life events, and fellow artists will serve as inspiration for ideas. Previous clay experience is encouraged.

This project-based hybrid class will advance skills for creating ceramic objects combining hand building techniques and wheel throwing, as chosen by the student. The class will be project-driven by each individual's goal. The creative process will include designing, sketching, planning, and process journaling. Techniques will be combined to meet the goals of each student's pieces. Individual's work will be guided and supported by the instructor for successful goal-based projects. 

Previous clay experience is encouraged.

In this foundational class for sculpture, students will build skills in handbuilding. Students will learn various methods such as coil building, slab construction, and additive and subtractive techniques to create both abstract and representational sculptures of their own ideas and design.  

You will glaze projects the final week of class.

In this class you will learn how to wedge, center, trim and make basic wheel thrown pottery. As skill level increases you, will be able to make more complicated work.  Weeks 1-5 will be on the wheel & week 6 you will glaze your work. 

Your pieces will be ready to pick up approximately 2 weeks after.

In this class you will learn how to construct clay vessels (mugs, vases, plates, platters, etc.) using slab, pinch, extruded and coiled pottery techniques. Weeks 1-5 are spent making the work & week 6 will be glazing.

In this class you will learn how to improve your ceramics wheel throwing skills to include making sets, discovering new forms and throwing with more accuracy.

 Class is 8 weeks long plus firing weekend.

Students will produce ceramic pieces for firing in a wood kiln. They will become familiar with how the firing process works and various effects that can be achieved using a wood kiln.

There is no pre-requisite for this class. Students are required to attend loading and unloading the kiln, as well as signing up for 2 or more firing shifts. The structure of the session is: 7 weeks making, 1 week glazing, firing over the weekend.

 In this class students will learn how to make their own wheel thrown Pottery while discussing and discovering the personal connections of community and communication through people gathering to dine. Discussions will focus on food influences in regards to how and what we eat, while creating functional pottery. Highlighting the function of the vessel as a resting place for good food choices with an emphasis on presentation. This unique class experience will culminate with a potluck served on the artist's own creations. 

No prerequisite, but experience is encouraged!
